Community Engagement
Cargill invests in local communities through economic development, partnerships and giving combined with the volunteer efforts of our employees. Cargill provides corporate support to select national and global nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that serve communities in which we have a business presence. We support partners working within our focus areas of food security, nutrition, and sustainability. And, our businesses and facilities sponsor employee-led groups, called Cargill Cares Councils, which support civic and non-profit organizations in their local communities.
Cargill Cares Councils seek to recognize issues important to our communities; build effective relationships with community leaders; and work to help improve living standards and promote vibrant, stable communities.
Local Activities
Through collaborations between our staff and commercial partners and municipalities, governmental departments, and associations, we can achieve measurable improvements in our communities.
- We support the Tafeln (German food banks) with regular donations for the fight against hunger across all the states of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to financial support, Cargill also lends assistance through the provision of food, and the procurement of cooling equipment, delivery vehicles, and other important materials for the Tafel food banks. In Krefeld, 80 warm meals are delivered to the local food bank every week. Furthermore, the Tafeln in Hamburg and Salzgitter receive oil and chocolate from the locations there.
- Every year in Germany Cargill actively takes part in campaigns for World Environment Day in order to promote environmental awareness. This includes planting trees at schools, giving talks on the subject of environmental protection, and collecting trash around the factories. Since 2014 Cargill has been giving out sachets of flower seeds to its employees every year, thus actively combating bee mortality.
- There are also campaigns at the locations across Germany every year on World Food Day. This involves supplying various schools and foundations with food, cookery events with children, and teaching about healthy and conscious nutrition.
