Cargill Germany

Cargill has been active in Germany since 1955 and following the acquisition of Cerestar, a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives, and Degussa´s food ingredients business, has now over 1.700 employees in 14 locations in the country:
In Barby, Berlin (two locations), Frankfurt−Höchst, Hamburg (three locations), Klein Schierstedt, Krefeld, Malchin, Mainz, Riesa, Salzgitter and Wittenberge where it has a joint venture producing biodiesel with Agravis Raiffeisen AG.

The German history

  • 1955  "Deutsche Tradax" (trade office) is founded in Hamburg
  • 1982  "Deutsche Tradax" changes its name to "Deutsche Cargill"
  • 1992  Laying of the foundation stone in Salzgitter
  • 1993  Start−up of the oilmill and malting unit in Salzgitter
  • 1998  Cargill acquires the "Ölmühlen Schmidt Söhne" in Mainz, the "Riesaer Ölwerke" and the food lubrication refinery "Hobum von Vandemoortele"
  • 2000  Cargill forms a joint venture with Agravis Raiffeisen AG in Wittenberge to produce biodiesel
  • 2002  Cargill acquires Cerestar − a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives − the largest acquisition in Cargill´s history. This acquisition included Cerestar´s German plants in Krefeld and Barby
  • 2004  Cargill acquires The Nestlé Group´s primary cocoa processing facilities (Breber) in Hamburg
  • 2005  Cargill acquires the global pectin business of Citrico, an international manufacturer and supplier of pectin products for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries
  • 2005  Cargill acquires Schierstedter Schokoladefabrik GmbH & Co − an industrial chocolate facility in Klein Schierstedt
  • 2006  Cargill acquires Degussa´s food ingredients, including its German site in Hamburg
  • 2006  Production starts at Cargill´s biodiesel plant in the Höchst industrial park in Frankfurt−am−Main
  • 2007  Cargill opens a new seaharbor dockingstation "Jetty" at the location Hamburg
  • 2008  Restart of KGA−facility (Ketogulonacid) in Krefeld; − a preproduct of manufacturing ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
  • 2008  Cargill builts a new watertreatment in the plant Krefeld
  • 2010  Change of trade name of Hamburg Wandsbek location to Gargill GmbH (Salzgitter)
  • 2011  Cargill acquires Kakao Verarbeitung Berlin with two locations
  • 2011  Cargill acquires commercial activities of Nedalco Alcohol Heilbronn
