Cargill has been manufacturing malt in Salzgitter since November 1993. Before this, the Cargill malting plants in Swalmen (the Netherlands) and Strasbourg (France) supplied malt for the German market. The Lower Saxony location was selected on account of the close proximity to Germany´s second largest malting barley cultivation area in Lower Franconia. We are proud to be the supplier of malt for most of the local breweries within 200 km. While we deliver our loose malt to these customers by truck or inland vessel, a small amount is set aside for private breweries in the U.S. and Japan.
